I CAN’T BREATHE (In memory of the innocent murdered around the world)

I CAN’T BREATHE ( In memory of the innocent murdered  around the world) Protests now accompany the dastardly act Perpetrated by a judge outwardly handsome And beautifully cladded in blue uniform But oozing with extreme malice from within. “I can’t breathe” is the loud popular slogan The protesters chanted, louder than Floyd’s For freely, unrestrained they sing and march on Unlike the originator, who unfeignedly had meant it. Pinned to the ground he was, gasping for breath With arms restrained at the back by the metallic shackles. A callous knee is on the vulnerable neck as he pleaded Others pleaded too, even threatened, to no avail. When malice has eaten too deep, reason is lost Justice is denied and even the innocent suffer. Was that a glimpse of smile, of triumph on his face? What impunity! On camera? Have we become so weak? The victim spoke many a word, painful words on the ground: ”I am thirsty’, ‘My stomach hurts’, ‘Everywhere hurts’ ’I need water’, and...

Temperance During Covid-19 Pandemic

Image
Temperance Temperance During Covid-19 Pandemic Temperance is self-containment, self-discipline, self-control, self-command, self-restrain etc. It is not everything we experience in our bodies and souls that should be given free rein. Nor should we do everything we ought to do. It is easier to let ourselves be carried away by so-called natural whims which ends up in sadness and seclusion in our own desolation.   It is problematic for some individuals to repudiate anything to their stomach, eyes, or hands. Such individuals are vehemently adamant to advice which encourages them to lead clean lives. As for the faculty of generating new life — a great and noble faculty, a participation in God's creative power — they misuse it and make it a tool for their own selfish ends.   Let’s avoid the negative part but rather, dwell on the rich rewards that temperance brings. This pandemic period has left so may people...

POST COVID-19 SCHOOL RESUMPTION.

To Awesome Parents, POST COVID-19 SCHOOL RESUMPTION I can tell it has not been easy with you staying with the children these past months of no school. I can imagine the stress of not just the children disturbing the house, constant yearning for cartoon as against your desire for African Magic, Fashion Police or Zee World; in addition to their seeming insatiable longing for food that is making majority of them bigger than they should have if they were going to school, let alone  the stress of studying and learning with them online. I know that quite a number of us cannot forget the experiences in a haste. Now here are some pieces of advice as you await anxiously for that day the news will resound that schools have been permitted to re-open: v   Face masks should be made readily available and the children should learn to wear and remove them correctly. They should already have begun to wear masks now at home. The question WHY should have been adequately addressed. And do...

Virtue

Image
Today, we will be talking about virtue. why virtue on this blog?  Now, let's look at the definition of a virtue: virtue / /ˈ vəːtΚƒuː,ˈvəːtjuː/ Noun/ Learn to pronounce meaning a behaviour showing high moral standards . A quality considered morally good or desirable in a person. A good or useful quality of a thing. The word  virtue  comes from the Latin root vir, for man. At first  virtue  meant manliness or valor, but over time it settled into the sense of moral excellence.  Virtue  can also mean excellence in general. Looking at the above definition, you will agree with me that we need to comprehend and practise virtue to enable us carry out our tasks daily and as at when due with a happy mind.  The quote below helps in assimilating the meaning of a virtue which we, irrespective of our status will have to abide by and not only us, but also our children.  We should ensure we indoctrinate these virtues(prudence, temperance, courage, faith...

E-Learning Programmes (Enugu States)

In my earlier post, it was stated our schools(Public and private) are fully ready to see that learning continues despite the lock-down because we believe that learning is not only confined to the four walls of the school.  Yesterday, I posted that of Lagos-State and promised to update you of the activities of other States. Below is that of Enugu State. So if you are in Enugu, kindly tune in to learn with your children.    Primary Schools: Monday - Friday from 11am -12noon.  Pupils are encouraged to listen to Radio Nigeria for their daily lessons.  Secondary Schools: Monday - Friday from 5pm - 6pm.  Students should endeavour to  tune in and join the class for their daily lessons.  We are calling on parents to avail themselves of this opportunity to positively engage their children even in the midst of this Covid-19 pandemic.  Book-wealth.

Feeding Palliatives for School Children at Home In Nigeria.

Image
This pandemic has no doubt increased the rate of hunger in the country that if not attended to, the children may not likely enjoy any form of learning. As the saying goes. "A hungry man is an angry man" and I will put it to you that, " A hungry child will never pay attention to your teaching’. To see that children, learn during this period with full stomach, some States in Nigeria, despite lock-down , have resumed the feeding of the school children but this time, in their various homes. This is a good one. Kudos to Our Government. Below is what Lagos State has started. News from other States will be brought to you when they commence theirs.   Yesterday Friday May 15th, 2020. The Lagos State Government, Commenced the Distribution Of Food To Primary School Pupils At Home. The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) is set to commence the distribution of food to primary school pupils at home.   The Chairman of Lagos SUBEB, Mr. Wahab Alawiye-King, disclos...

To Do activity for parents.

Image
Here's a beautiful To Do for you as a parent: See if you have the ability to turn off all electronics tonight. Sit around the dinner table with your family. Eat together in a civilized manner. And stay at the table in your seats for 30 minutes. Talk about important things. Ask your kids questions—deep questions. See what they think about God, about life, about politics. If you’re like most parents, you will see the following: 1) your kids are far more insightful than you imagined; 2) the younger kids are more willing to engage; 3) YOU are part of the problem, not just your kids. You’re antsy, anxious, and you feel the need to “get things done.” Just chill out and enjoy your kids. I copied this from a book. Did you get similar results? You may wish to share πŸ˜‰. Thanks. From, Raising Boys Aright.

E-Learning Plans In Nigerian Schools.

Due to this pandemic, the various States in Nigeria have devised  means to help the children learn until the schools officially reopens. IF you have read my first post on this blog ‘Advice to Parents’  it was stated there that our schools (Public and Private) believe that learning is not only confined to the four walls of the school. This is a proof from Lagos State . πŸ‘‡πŸΌ Welcome to EKOEXCEL@Home! As part of Lagos SUBEB’s initiatives to support pupil learning while schools are closed, daily lesson guides, self-study activity packs and reading assignments have been created for parents to use to support their children’s learning at home and for pupils to study on their own. Follow Lagos SUBEB’s page on Facebook so you do not miss daily lesson updates. You can reach out to us via the comment section if you have questions so we can support you. You can access today’s lessons here: http://ekoexcel.ng/ #LeaveNoChildBehind We will ensure to bring your way that of other St...

ADVICE TO PARENTS

Dear Amazing Parents, This pandemic has directly changed our system of education that even when schools finally reopen, it won’t be business as usual. I’m really happy that our schools are equally ready to take up the challenge that despite learners being at home, learning will still take place. That is because we (schools) believe that learning is not only confined to the four walls of the school. But we cannot achieve the desired result if our amazing parents do not coope rate with us. We enjoin you to collaborate with your child’s school and the teachers so that you utilize the opportunities that this period presents. Endeavor to sit with them while they are learning online or occasionally check on them while they are at it as some of them can be smart that if not watched may likely log out from the learning site and move onto another site either to watch music and dance or video. (Children will always be children) Ensure your schedule is synchronized with their learning schedule. S...
