I CAN’T BREATHE (In memory of the innocent murdered around the world)

I CAN’T BREATHE (In memory of the innocent murdered around the world)

Protests now accompany the dastardly act
Perpetrated by a judge outwardly handsome
And beautifully cladded in blue uniform
But oozing with extreme malice from within.

“I can’t breathe” is the loud popular slogan
The protesters chanted, louder than Floyd’s
For freely, unrestrained they sing and march on
Unlike the originator, who unfeignedly had meant it.

Pinned to the ground he was, gasping for breath
With arms restrained at the back by the metallic shackles.
A callous knee is on the vulnerable neck as he pleaded
Others pleaded too, even threatened, to no avail.

When malice has eaten too deep, reason is lost
Justice is denied and even the innocent suffer.
Was that a glimpse of smile, of triumph on his face?
What impunity! On camera? Have we become so weak?

The victim spoke many a word, painful words on the ground:
”I am thirsty’, ‘My stomach hurts’, ‘Everywhere hurts’
’I need water’, and so he continues, but all ears went dead,
The judges have suddenly turned executioners.

Continue to rest on brother, and pray for your siblings
Still around the globe, screaming in agonizing pain:
‘We can’t breathe!’ ‘We are hungry, also thirsty!’
Under yoke of monstrous representation.

As they did you, they are not listening, they pretend
That all is well, in as much as they, nor their kind
Are not the ones under the crushing knee, kissing mother earth
Let them be reminded that death will one day come their way too.

Imagine ordinary created creatures, claiming supremacy!
Imagine the weak and cowardly acting like conquering warriors!
Imagine sinners cladding themselves in garments of saints
While still obnoxiously unrepented and of grave malignity.

Hope they understand soon that evil chokes the doer
When you hold up what is mine because you are taller
In time you will bring that hand down to nurse it
Else you continue to live in perpetual discomfort.

Yes, racism, tribalism, nepotism, oppression, terrorism
Corruption and greed are like Chauvin’s murderous knee.
Many, near and distant are guilty of the charge.
We shall continue to breathe till justice is one day served.

  6. Racism has eaten deep into our system not just the whites. You find a Nigerian so mean to another Nigerian because they are not from the same state. Is that not racism?
