POST COVID-19 SCHOOL RESUMPTION.
To
Awesome Parents,
POST
COVID-19 SCHOOL RESUMPTION
I can tell it has not been easy with you staying with the children these past months of no school. I can imagine the stress of not just the children disturbing the house, constant yearning for cartoon as against your desire for African Magic, Fashion Police or Zee World; in addition to their seeming insatiable longing for food that is making majority of them bigger than they should have if they were going to school, let alone the stress of studying and learning with them online. I know that quite a number of us cannot forget the experiences in a haste.
Now
here are some pieces of advice as you await anxiously for that day the news
will resound that schools have been permitted to re-open:
v Face masks should be made
readily available and the children should learn to wear and remove them
correctly. They should already have begun to wear masks now at home. The
question WHY should have been adequately addressed. And do not say because you
are using a washable face mask, the children can also use that comfortably
thereby getting them just one. Remember they are children, so they should have as
many as possible.
v Hand sanitizer should
always be in their bags and pockets. Begin now to explain WHY and how it is
used if you are yet to do so.
v Teach them to wash their
hands properly and regularly. Never forget to remember to explain the WHY in
the action. Liquid soap should also be provided for them in case they get to a
place and it is not available. Do not insist you are going to pay school fees
so the school should provide all that; they should but do not rely on them. Let
your strategy be a plan B should the school fail. Your child’s and family’s safety is more
important than any thought you may have over the fees you have paid.
v Teach them social
distancing. Let them at least be conscious of it and why it should be observed.
Teach them to avoid picking their nose and rubbing their eyes with their hands
and again, tell them WHY.
v Try and provide the
essentials so they do not resort to borrowing academic materials from their
mates. Teach them contentment. They should not beg snacks or food from anybody.
Again, teach them WHY.
v When school finally
resumes, have that pet talk with them every morning as they leave for school.
Have it on Monday, Have it on Tuesday. Again on Wednesday through Friday. Do
not relent.
v Above all, live what you
preach applying all these measures in your homes. Do not assume they will just
follow your instructions because you have told them to. When they see you do
these things, your job of unending explanations of WHY is made a lot easier. Be
that right role model. If you do not have all the answers, common, read them
up, ask questions yourself (the right people please) and you will get
enlightened.
Keep
keeping safe and keep keeping up the faith. God will see us through.

I really love the frequency and manner at which you reiterated, "and again, teach them WHY" virtually in the highlighted points.
