I Want My Mama - A Voice in Crèche

I WANT MY MAMA (By Maryprecious Dike)

What is this new place?
Why is everywhere so strange?
What am I doing here?
Where is my sweet mama?

Why can’t anybody understand me?
And why are they all trying to carry me
As if they are my mama? I know my mama
Where is my sweet mama? Who are these people?

Ok, I will continue to cry, wail, roll on the ground
I will not eat this new food, this strange food,
Give me my sweet mama
She has my ‘sweet food’, ‘two very sweet food’

What are they even saying, I will cry louder
Why are the other children not complaining
It must be that strange food, I won’t eat it
I want my ‘two food’ with my mama

Don’t sing to me, your voice is not sweet
Like my mama’s; go away!
Don’t tickle me with your rough fingers
I am hungry; I am angry; give me my mama!

Why am I in this cloth like other children?
Remove it, weather is hot, remove everything
What is that one writing on the board?
What is all this when I can’t even talk?

What do I know aside eating and crying
Why did mama leave me here to die of hunger
And heat in this strange costume?
See noise everywhere, my friends, let’s cry!

I shall cry, we shall cry
Louder we shall complain and cry
Until they hear our fighting cooing
And leave us where we belong: with our mama.
